Founders Quad Ranks 7th at Nationals
Sarasota, Florida - June 11, 2022
This week Founders Rowing Club sent 3 boats, including 8 of our 12 athletes to the US Rowing Youth National Championships in Sarasota, Florida. We had a short season leading up to Nationals, including only the Texas State Championship and the US Rowing Central Youth Regionals in Oklahoma City. In fact, our team did not have the opportunity to race in any side-by-side sprint races this year, as weather prevented anything beyond time trials to be conducted at either event.
As a result, Founders athletes were unsure as to what could be expected at Nationals, as most competitors would have had robust racing schedules throughout the spring. The team was delighted to have all boats make advanced finals. Quinn Diamond and Conland Diamond, who are lightweights finished 5th in the C final for open weight pairs on Saturday, giving them 17th in the Nation, in an event they only started working on this year.
In the U17 Double, Sophomores Samantha Rietbroek and Olivia Knight finished 3rd in the B Final, ranking them as number 9 in the US. And finally, Founders Varsity Quad, rowed by seniors Ashley Hall and Camille Egger, along with Juniors Maile Nelson and Sophia Rhodes finished 1st in the B final. They are now ranked 7th in the US in the Women’s Youth Quad. This is the best result Founders has had at US Rowing Nationals.
With 4 underclassmen competing at the highest level this year, Founders looks forward to seeing what we will do next year!
